Nicholas Dawson consults with a legal expert in his article in The Echo. The expert states that the DWP made “textbook errors”
Michael McCready of McCreadyLaw goes on to point out the situation is a “a classic case of poor communication by a public body” and calls the situation a classic example of what happens when change of process goes ahead of communication.
On the issue of women being responsible for knowing about the changes Mr McCready is quite clear – “But most people aren’t tracking Government policy announcements in their spare time. If you change something as significant as the state pension age, and don’t make a serious effort to communicate it directly to those impacted, you can’t turn around and blame them for not knowing. That’s not how accountability works.”
Mr McCready looks forward to the WASPI situation bringing real improvements to communication by Government departments.
