Our Campaign
We are a campaign group for 1950s born women who saw rapid and steep increases to their State Pension age without adequate notice. In March 2024, the Ombudsman found this to be maladministration and instructed Parliament to deliver compensation as quickly as possible. WASPI continues to work cross-party to see justice delivered for the 3.6 million women affected. If you are a woman born on or after 6th April 1950 to 5th April 1960 you are WASPI woman.
What is the inequality?
Many WASPI women received only 18 month’s notice of a six year increase in their State Pension. Men however received six year’s notice of a one year increase.
What are we campaigning for?
WASPI is calling on the government to agree fair and fast compensation for all women affected by the lack of notice regarding the State Pension age increases to reflect their financial losses, the sustained damage to their mental health, and well-being, and the additional impacts.
Compensation would be for the lack of notice women received, not the loss of State Pension.
What might compensation look like
In May 2024 WASPI gave evidence to the Work and Pensions Select Committee about how compensation might be paid.
This included a proposal of a rules-based system of compensation for all women affected by the stress and anxiety of not being informed about the increases. This would be based on the length of notice they received and how long they waited for their State Pension.
In addition, women who can show that they suffered a direct financial loss could make a claim and provide evidence. The DWP would need to then work out the level of compensation in each case for these women.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, after a six-year investigation, concluded that the six sample cases they considered did not suffer direct financial loss, but went on to acknowledge that some WASPI women will have suffered financial losses.
