Letter to the Times – 14 November 2025
14th November 2025
One of the commentators in the Times made the point that women should have sought out the information that their State Pension age was changing themselves. Here is a letter in response published today. This was penned by Susan Kitteringham, a WASPI woman from Hertford – well done Susan!

Susan makes some very true and persuasive points in her letter. I would also question why women would check the date of their Pension age when they had been told all their lives they would retire at 60 and had seen nothing to the contrary. Even if they had heard something and checked it out, the front page of the Government website stated women retired at 60 – this was not corrected until 2016. It would perhaps be slightly more accurate to say that the DWP identified that the correct course of action would be to write to the women involved. It is their failure to do that which caused the judgement of maladministration and the recommendation for compensation.
