Parliamentary Work

WASPI meet with MPs from all parties on a regular basis. We hold regular drop in events for MPs and their staff in Westminster. These allow us to inform MPs about our campaign and offer them the chance to pledge support for us. Additionally, we attend the main party political conferences each year. This gives us opportunities to engage with MPs and their staff. Our local groups also meet with their MPs regularly.

Select Committee Evidence and Letters

WASPI has given written evidence to the Work and Pensions and Women and Equalities Select Committees.  We have appeared three times in person before the Work and Pensions Select Committee. Our evidence in May 2024 helped to convince the Committee to write to the Minister for Work and Pensions, setting out the need for fair and fast compensation. You can read the evidence we gave here and the letter here.

Petitions

Our latest, in started in May 2025 currently has nearing 160,000 signatures.  This process ensures that our issue remains in the public eye.  Parliament debated this petition on 17th March 2025. The debate lasted for three hours and the room was full of MPs from all parties who spoke passionately in support of WASPI compensation. The one dissenting voice was the Pensions Minister, speaking on behalf of the Government. You can watch the debate here.

All Party Parliamentary Group

WASPI work with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Women’s State Pensions (APPG). This is one of the largest cross party groups in Westminster. It includes members from all parties across the Lords and Commons. WASPI is pleased to provide them with case studies and up to date briefings.

We keep the APPG fully informed of the latest actions the Campaign is taking. The Chairs of the APPG have joined WASPI in giving evidence to the Work and Pensions Select Committee on the need for compensation.
