INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY 2026 in Portsmouth

From Solent WASPI group

Today 28th April, we joined Portsmouth Trades Council and representatives to mark IWMD 2026. Flowers (later taken to the Rowans Hospice) were laid at the Workers’ Memorial in Victoria Park. The TUC’s themes for this year are psychosocial hazards and mental health risks in the workplace, with the focus on the safety issues of work-related stress, burnout, and mental illness, often caused by poor management and new technology.

We remember over 413,000 1950s-born women who have died since 2015 without getting State Pension justice. We also remember those affected by the DWP`s proven maladministration, who had to continue working, often in poor health and in high risk jobs. They were forced to do so because they had no other income or entitlement to state support and had no opportunity to make alternative arrangements to their finances.

As always, we stand in solidarity with others to commemorate International Workers’ Memorial Day.

‘Remember the dead. Fight for the living.’
