The Labour government is reconsidering its previous decision to reject compensation for the “WASPI” women—those born in the 1950s who say they weren’t properly informed about the rise in the state pension age.
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman had recommended compensation of up to £2,950 per affected woman. Labour’s Pat McFadden stated the government would “retake” the decision, though this doesn’t guarantee pay-outs.
Labour cited a previously undisclosed 2007 Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) document as a reason for reopening the case.
