DWP MASS ACTION

If ever there was a time to stand up and be counted as a WASPI woman, it is now.

If there ever was a time when women needed to help other women in a similar situation as you, waiting up to six extra years for your pension, it is now.

And if you ever needed to give some time to make a formal complaint to the DWP about a case of maladministration….it is that time.

WASPI are pleased to issue the “Guide to DWP Complaints", produced by top London lawyers Bindmans. It takes into account all the different issues which affect us. It will ensure that our complaints going to the DWP cover all the necessary points and will move WASPI on to a mass complaint to the Parliamentary Ombudsman, which can help us to get justice.

Template Letters
There are 2.6 million affected by the lack of notice of the 1995 and 2011 Pensions Acts.   Not all of them even know its happened.

We can help them by making our own complaints and helping others to make theirs.  Don’t leave it and think someone else will do it.  This is your pension and your fight.  Look to the left where you can get the “ Guide to DWP Complaints ” and template letters which will help you make your complaint.   You will also see a Guide to Maladministration which you may also like to read

Ask questions, join a local WASPI group …try.

It involves effort, resolve and determination to do it.  But if we don’t make that effort we’re sending a strong message to the Government that we don’t have the heart to fight the injustice.  As many of us as possible must make a complaint to the DWP - get going on yours now!

It must hurt, and it must sting.

DWP COMPLAINT - STAGES 1 & 2

There is no easy way to do this. There is no quickstep to the legal process. It requires that we take action and don't wait for someone else to do it for us. We have to turn up the heat and we can all help. Tell your friends; send your letters play YOUR part. We want to cause such a high volume that it will further compel the Government to look in earnest at making remedy for the "grotesque disadvantage" and financial loss we have suffered.

STAGE 1: Start the process of making a complaint to the DWP.  Use the template letter as a guide to register your dissatisfaction and formally record your complaint.

STAGE 2: Once you’ve had a response to your stage 1 complaint then you’re ready to do your next letter.

Stage two letter template can be found opposite.

STAGE 3: Once you’ve had your response to the previous letter, you’ll see you’ve 6 months to do your next letter.  It’s important to stay within the timelines given.

Request For Information
If the DWP don’t reply within their time scales (15 days for first 2 letters then write again and there’s a chaser letter template)

PERSONAL FILE REQUESTS - You can do this as soon as you want.  It would be useful to know what DWP holds on your personal file. We would like all WASPI campaigners to ask for this information. You get a form online, print it and complete it - no letter writing this time. You just need to fill in the blanks and post it off to the DWP - simple as that!    It takes up to 40 days to get a reply. Women are getting back lots of useful information from the Personal File requests and some are finding it helpful to claim more qualifying NI years as a result.

To ask for a copy of the personal information DWP holds about you, please use the DWP request for personal information form.

Requests for personal information are also called ‘Subject Access Requests’.  The DWP will not charge you for this service.

Keep a Copy:  At all stages make a note of the date you sent your letter or SAR and keep a copy of what you sent
If you don’t get a response within their timescales for reply then write again and complain again.  We have a template letter to help with that:

The DWP publishes a document about the service you should receive.

SUPPORT FROM UNISON

Over the past months we've been working with Gloria Mills MBE, National Secretary Equalities, UNISON & President, European Trade Union Confederation Women’s Committee and this has culminated in us attending a most helpful and constructive meeting just before Christmas. We’re now delighted to let you all know that UNISON have pledged support for WASPI at national level. This is accompanied by a generous & considerable financial donation to go towards the campaign's running costs.
The WASPI Campaign is a major agenda item at the UNISON Women’s Conference in Brighton in February and we are invited as speakers on Friday 17th February. WASPI have also been invited to run a fringe meeting during the evening on Friday 17 February, from 5:35pm to 6:30pm.

UNISON have also made arrangements for us to have a stall in the main foyer area and for the whole of conference (From 1pm on Thursday 16th to 1pm on Saturday 18th February). WASPI supporters who are UNISON members may attend the conference as visitors and this can be arranged via their Branch or Regional Secretaries.  We look forward to seeing you there!

This truly is an amazing achievement and a fantastic example of women working in UNISON.
WASPI NATIONAL DEMO

WEDNESDAY, 8TH MARCH 2017 - OLD PALACE YARD SW1P 3JY

We are holding our next national demonstration in Westminster opposite the Houses of Parliament on Budget Day 8th March 2017.  Please join us!!

Our demo coincides with International Women’s Day, which is very appropriate!

WASPI NATIONAL PROTEST UPDATE

D(EMO) DAY IS NEARLY UPON US!

We want the day to be a huge success and for it to happen without any upheavals or accidents.

We’ve been working hard with the Metropolitan Police and with Westminster Palace to ensure that things will run smoothly.

The start time for the demo is 1.00pm. We’ll begin arriving from midday and start warming up the chanting! There are plenty of coffee-shops etc. in the vicinity of the Houses of Parliament should your train or coach arrive earlier than that.

There will be an info point with two WASPI representatives in Purple Hi Viz. vests near the P.A. system to the left of Old Palace Yard as you enter. Please listen for announcements as necessary.

Because the media will be on College Green, (also called Abingdon Street Gardens ) we would like those who can to approach the meeting point from the south, and walk up Abingdon Street towards Westminster en route to Old Palace Yard. This will mean you can chant and make a racket as you go past and draw as much attention as possible to the demo, before arriving at our protest point at Old Palace Yard, which is marked with a purple wasp. The postcode is SW1P 3JY .

You can either take the tube to St. James’s Park Tube and walk, (10 minutes) or if coming from Waterloo walk down Abingdon Street and past the WASPi protest point, turn round and walk back up chanting and waving your banners and flags. Please remember we must not obstruct the pavement.

If you are bringing banners to the protest please make sure they are facing the main road and that they are visible to everyone – and especially the media.

We would like there to be a ‘sea’ of WASPI women and supportive WASPI men dressed in black with WASPI sashes or alternatively black with a WASPI t-shirt. What a visual impact this will make!

If you are lobbying (and we hope you ALL will be), please read the Lobby Pack  for instructions on where to go. Give yourself plenty of time as there will be possible delays due to the number of women wishing to get into the House. At peak times it can take up to 45 minutes. Police will be there to provide guidance.

If you meet your MP remember to take photos and invite him or her to take a photo of you and your group for their own Facebook pages and twitter accounts. If you use Facebook and Twitter please post photos during the day, and if Tweeting use #WASPI Campaign.

Inevitably, there are a number of guidelines, instructions and restrictions as agreed with the authorities. These are listed below. Please, respect them and ensure that you are safe, do not break the law and have an enjoyable time!

You are responsible for your own Health and Safety.

WASPI does not accept any liability whatsoever

  • Please, stay on the pavements. You are in a busy, central London area with lots of traffic. If the demonstration area becomes congested please follow the instructions of the designated stewards.

  • You are not allowed to sell any goods (related to WASPI or not) or refreshments

  • You will be responsible for any litter that you may drop. We have been warned that the Westminster litter police will be out in force and will fine you on the spot

  • You are therefore discouraged from handing out WASPI leaflets/literature - as when you are seen to do so and the recipient then discards the leaflet, you may be held responsible

  • You are not allowed to release balloons. Should you wish to bring balloons, you must either dispose of them in dustbins or take them back home with you

  • You are not allowed to fasten things to railings, street signs, lamp posts etc.

  • Everything you bring along such as banners and placards must go back home with you and must not be left in the surroundings of the Houses of Parliament

And finally Public Toilets can be found at the station and opposite Westminster Abbey and if you are desperate or cheeky at The Methodist Central Hall (basement) - also opposite Westminster Abbey.

‪Come rain or shine - NOTHING will stop us from fighting for justice!

We have interesting speakers lined up:

  • Peter Stefanovic, Lawyer and Journalist
  • Dave Prentis, General Secretary, UNISON
  • Tim Loughton MP (Con)
  • Carolyn Harris MP (Labour)
  • Barbara Keeley MP (Labour)
